5 Family Friendly Summer Activities in Kelowna

Kelowna British Columbia
Summer is fast approaching, and we’re excited to jump into all the amazing warm-weather activities that Kelowna has to offer. From breathtaking hikes, to brewery tours, to spending days on the beach soaking up the sun, there’s never a shortage of things to do.

With that in mind, we want to share six of our favorite summertime excursions that are perfect for getting your family out and about.

1. Visit Myra Canyon

Myra Canyon

Myra Canyon is free to walk and bike, making it the perfect affordable family outing. Located 40 minutes away from downtown Kelowna, Myra Canyon is an absolute must for residents and tourists alike.

This stunning segment of the Kettle Valley Railway (KVR) runs along a steep-walled canyon, offering breathtaking scenic views of the area. The KVR is an impressive piece of history, originally built by hand and offering 2 tunnels and 18 trestle bridges that are truly impressive to behold. Pack lunch and enjoy the incredible combination of nature and history that Myra Canyon offers.

If you don’t have a mountain bike but would like the experience, there are bike rentals located conveniently at the entrance of the trail.

2. Check Out Kangaroo Creek Farm

This is an incredible opportunity to see adorable Kangaroos without having to purchase that pricey plane ticket to Australia! Located only a 20-minute car ride away from downtown Kelowna, the Kangaroo Creek Farm is a true family favourite. While Kangaroos are definitely the star of the show, the farm is also home to a plethora of other critters such as peacocks, wallabies, pigs, emus, tortoises, turkeys, parrots, reptiles, and goats.

During the off season, admission to the farm is $16 for adults, $8 dollars for children, youth, and seniors, and free for kids under four. During peak season, expect to pay a couple dollars more per person – but know that it is absolutely worth it for this truly unique summertime experience.

3. Walk Through the Kasugai Gardens

Kasugai Gardens

If you and your family are looking for a little peace of mind and some stunning nature aesthetics to enjoy, this is the perfect outdoor park to visit.

Kasugai Gardens, named after its sister city in Japan, is a beautiful reprieve from the hustle and bustle of city life. While it’s located in downtown Kelowna, it is walled off to keep tranquillity and quiet at the forefront. The gardens feature traditional elements found in Japanese gardens such as stone lanterns

and pathways, pine trees, local plants and greenery, waterfalls, and a pond stocked with beautiful Koi fish.

4. Take a Water Taxi or Cruise

One of the best parts of Kelowna is its abundance of water access!

If you and your family love being on the water, then taking a cruise on Okanagan Lake via water taxi is a truly incredible experience. Bring your own snacks and drinks on board, knowing that everything will be kept cold with full refrigeration capabilities on offer. You can also pop off the boat and swim for a while should that strike your fancy!

Whether you want a private taxi service to get you from one point to another, or are looking to spend a couple of fun-filled hours on the lake cruising in style, this is a lovely way to elevate that sunny Kelowna morning or afternoon.

5. Play Hard at Scandia Golf and Games

Whether you’re a child or simply a child at heart, there’s nothing not to love about the abundance of fun family-friendly activities offered at Scandia Golf and Games.
